ChainCraft signs covenant with twenty Northern companies for multibillion-euro 10x10x10 program

Groningen, 8 December 2025 — During the Campussen Dinner, organised by Campus Coalition, Campus Groningen and the Campus Community Fund, twenty leading companies signed the covenant for Chemport 10x10x10, an ambitious scale-up program set to give green chemistry in the Northern Netherlands an unprecedented boost over the next decade.

In the program, the companies commit to at least €1 billion in new private investments in green chemical innovation in the region. Making it one of the largest private collaborations in circular chemistry in Europe.

Private initiative, public benefit
The participating companies, ranging from scale-ups to international frontrunners in circular plastics, biobased materials and CO₂ utilisation, have already proven their capabilities in recent years. Between 2020 and 2025, they jointly invested €300–350 million in pilots, demos and first-of-a-kind plants.

With Chemport 10x10x10, the companies now take the next step, reaching a total impact of more than €1 billion. These plants will serve as technological showcases for the global transition from linear to circular production. The initiators call on the region to make at least €10 million per year available over the next 10 years, to support 10 installations.

Why this is unique
10x10x10 stands out in the Netherlands and Europe:

  • Fully industry-driven initiative: companies themselves take the lead in scaling up, without waiting for slow government programs or complex hybrid financing structures.
  • A powerful example of Northern cooperative innovation: companies combine experience, knowledge and networks to accelerate scale-up, from TRL 4 to commercial deployment.
  • A regional ecosystem with unique strengths: the Northern Netherlands offers biobased resources, infrastructure, talent, space and a strong triple-helix structure — all explicitly cited in the presentation as success factors.
  • Private commitments encourage government support: the program aligns with the regional economic agenda Nij Begun, national policy, and European instruments such as the European Competitiveness Fund, maximising regional impact.

Participating companies
Participants include (selection): Avantium, BioBTX, SkyNRG, Paques Biomaterials, ChainCraft, Recell, Senbis, ChemCom, Verborg Group, UPPact and various companies in the recycling, biobased raw materials and CCU value chain.

> Johan Holstein, Plant Director SkyNRG / DSL-01:
“We are participating because we want to demonstrate that green industry can succeed — and help make aviation more sustainable — all from the Northern Netherlands.”

> Joost Paques, CEO Paques Biomaterials:
“With ten new showcase plants, we are not only building a circular industry, but also securing a future-proof economic foundation for thousands of people in our region.”

About 10x10x10
10x10x10 is an industry-driven program in which ten leading companies from the Northern Netherlands join forces to realise at least ten new showcase plants within ten years. The program focuses on circular plastics, biobased raw materials, CO₂-based feedstocks and other key technologies supporting the carbon transition.

The initiative is rooted in the regional innovation network and aligns with the ambition to make the Northern Netherlands the world’s first fully circular and green chemistry region, supported by the Chemport Europe 2025–2030 strategy.

Privaat initiatief, publiek voordeel

Over 10x10x10
